The Soolal Singam Story

It started with a troubling reality, Tamil Nadu generating mountains of electronic waste while informal recyclers risked their health for just 15% material recovery. We saw public hygiene workers exposed to toxic chemicals, soil and water contamination threatening communities, and valuable resources being lost forever. They knew there had to be a better way.

In early 2024, Deep Cycle Hub was born with a simple mission: to transform how Tamil Nadu handles e-waste. Back then, our goal was to create a web app that brought safe, doorstep collection to people's homes, powered by electric vehicles. Every phone, laptop, and battery is transported to our facility, where trained professionals dismantle and sort materials for TNPCB-approved recycling partners.

But we didn't stop at technology. We created Soolal Singam, Tamil Nadu's first environmental mascot, to connect with communities in their own language and culture. Through school programs reaching over 1,200 students and community events, we're building awareness that drives real action.

Today, we've won recognition as Puthozhil Kalam 2025 winners, secured strategic partnerships with government stakeholders. Our goal is ambitious but clear: become Tamil Nadu's largest e-waste recycler while creating 200+ green jobs and saving 2.5 tons of CO2 for every ton we process.

Vision

To build India's largest and most inclusive network of e-waste collection centers, creating meaningful employment opportunities, while preventing millions of tons of hazardous materials from harming our environment.

Mission

To revolutionize e-waste collection across India through an inclusive approach that values both environmental protection and human dignity. We are committed to ensuring no e-waste or person working with e-waste is left behind. By addressing the critical first mile of the e-waste journey, we create the foundation for a circular economy that transforms environmental challenges into opportunities for economic growth and ecological restoration.

Meet the Minds Behind Soolal Singam

Soolal Singam wasn't started as a commercial campaign. It was born from a shared frustration with how little e-waste awareness reached everyday households, and a deep desire to make environmental action accessible, local, and culturally rooted.

The Spark That Started It All/ Our Catalyst: From Vision to Action

March 2025 changed everything for environmental action in Thoothukudi. MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi announced the Puthozhil Kalam initiative with a bold promise: ₹10 lakhs for the startup that could make the biggest difference in our region. Everyone knew that the e-waste problem existed, but few had the resources or platform to tackle it head-on. Puthozhil Kalam represented something unprecedented: a genuine opportunity to scale environmental solutions with substantial backing and support. This wasn't just funding; it was recognition that grassroots innovation could drive statewide change. When Soolal Singam was announced as one of the three winners, it signaled a powerful shift, environmental action was no longer just about awareness, but about impact. Puthozhil Kalam became the spark that turned heartfelt ambition into real-world change. Soolal Singam's e-waste collection and recycling proposal directly addressed the crisis sitting in people's homes and offices, promising to turn Tamil Nadu's waste problem into an economic opportunity.

Together, Joseph and Deepthi created Soolal Singam (சூழல் சிங்கம்) – Tamil Nadu's first environmental mascot, to spark a cultural and behavioral shift around e-waste, starting from the household level. Their combined vision brings communities, technology, and environmental responsibility into one powerful ecosystem for change.
